Kyambogo University staff call-off strike

The striking teaching and non teaching staff of Kyambogo University have suspended their strike that has been on for about three weeks, affecting routine activities at Uganda's second top higher learning institution.

The decision to suspend the strike comes after an agreement between the leaders of the staff and Ministry of Education that took place on Sunday.

According to Dr. Charles Twesigye, the chairperson of the general assembly of the institution, the ministry agreed to address their grievances in exchange for the staff resuming work with immediate effect.
They said they are suspending the strike since Ndiege's contract will soon expire and thus he will no no more at the institution.

Both the staff and students, who were demanding for lectures have been on strike, paralyzing work at Kyambogo.

The staff on the other hand were demanding the immediate resignation of the vice chancellor, Isaiah Omolo Ndiege, who was reinstated to this position by the High Court, after he was suspended by the University Council over accusations of flouting procurement procedures and demonizing staff
