Police in Kampala on Monday foiled a take-off of a political rally organised by opposition parties in a bid to show their disagreement with the Kampala Capital City Authority tribunal report that recommended for the sacking of Kampala Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago.
There was heavy Police deployment all over the city and the intended venue for the rally, Nakivubo blue Primary School was a 'no go' zone for any politician.
The head of operations Sam Omara said he would not let any politician come closer to the premises.
“As long as i am here, no politician will enter Nakivubo Blue primary school”, said Omara.
Lukwago was arrested at the his home as he moved out. He was not allowed to proceed with his intended journey.
He was later dragged in to a Police pick-up truck that took him to Naggalama Police Station in Mukono District, where he is still under detention.
According to sources at the station, no charges were preferred against Lukwago and journalists were not allowed to access where he was sitting.
Fellow opposition activists; Ingrid Turinawe, Mubarak Munyagwa, the Kawempe Mayor and Doreen Nyanjura were also arrested and held at Central Police station in Kampala.
The rally was prearheaded by Mukono Woman MP. Hon Betty Nambooze. She was also picked from a supermarket in downtown Kampala.
