Kampala tops in A'Level performance.

Kampala continued to keep on the helm of top performing Districts after it emerged with the highest number of students with the required four principal passes in the 2012 A'Level results released on Tuesday morning by the Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB).
Kampala was followed by Wakiso in second place and Mukono in third place.

For a candidate to be the best, they are expected to score the highest mark of 25 points in the four principal subjects and one subsidiary paper (General paper).

Regionally, Kampala topped the Central region, followed by Wakiso, Mukono, Luwero. Mbarara, Kabale, Bushenyi, Kasese topped Western region. Mbale, Jinja, Iganga, Tororo, Soroti led in the Eastern region. Northern region was led by Lira, Gulu, Koboko, Kitgum.

The results also showed a slight improvement in general performance with girls performing much better than boys especially in Art subjects. In Sciences, Biology was well performed compared to other subjects.

Of the total number of candidates who sat the 2012 A'Level examinations, 99.3% qualified for the award of Uganda Certificate of Education (UACE) that will see them enroll for higher education at the various training Institutions for the award of Certificates, Diploma and Degrees.

2012 UACE results released.

The Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB) on Tuesday morning released the 2012 Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education (UACE) results showing a tremendous improvement in performance compared to the year 2011.

The results were released at Statistics House by the UNEB Chairperson Fagil Mandy who handed them over to the Education and Sports Minister Hon. Jessica Alupo. Mandy thanked the press for accurate reporting and called it the largest school. He said it has caused critical thinking.

A total of 111.456 students sat the 2012 examinations of which 42.341 were female. The results also showed that girls performed much better than boys especially in Art subjects.

Education and Sports Minister Alupo receiving the 2012 UACE
results from UNEB Chairperson, Fagil Mandy on Tuesday.
The majority of the students were art students. Sciences registered a very low enrollment, a case in point was Biology which had only 10.8% of the total number of students.

99.3% of the students who sat last year's UACE qualified for the Award of the Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education.

Kampala was the best performing District with 3,114 candidates with four principal passes, followed by Wakiso District  with 2, 902, Mukono third with 913 and Masaka with 477.

There were high rates of examination malpractice especially in Fine Art recorded in last year's exams. UNEB has promised to blacklist all schools, teachers, school management committees and invigilators who indulge in examination malpractice.

Nagalama Muslim, Kampala Hall, Gomba College, Ambrolin College, Lugogo Hall, Valley College-Bushenyi, Sharing Centre-Kampala, Abim Academy and others have had their results with-held due to examination malpractices.

Release of 2012 A'Level results expected today.

The Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB) is today expected to release the 2012 Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education (UACE) results.

According to UNEB spokesperson, Hamis Kaheru, the 2012 S.6 results will be released on Tuesday at 9 am at Statistics House in Kampala and the release ceremony is expected to be presided over by the Minister of Education and Sports Hon. Jessica Alupo.

This will be the first set of examinations to be released since the examining body made adjustments in the way they are set the exams.

Pope Benedict XVI holds last mass at Vatican.

Pope Benedict XVI on Sunday held his last mass as a Pope  at St. Peter's Square at the Vatican in Rome. It was an emotional moment as he had his last prayer. The Pope however assured all faithfuls that he would not "abandon" the Church.

Tens of thousands of believers turned up for the prayers ahead of the Pope's formal resignation on Thursday. They clapped, chanted and cheered on as he said his last words.

Pope Benedict said God had called him to dedicate himself prayers and meditation.
"The Lord is calling me to climb the mountain, to dedicate myself even more to prayer and meditation but this doesn't mean abandoning the Church", said the Pope amid cheers.

Pension Scam. More rot unearthed by Police.

As the country struggles to cop with Aid cuts from key Donor countries, more billions of shillings are still being found to have been misused in the guise of pension payments to non existing pensioners.

While addressing the media today, Police spokesperson Judith Nabakooba said police had unearthed more ghost pensioners with a total of 1160 having received money that cost the Ugandan tax payer a whooping shs.104 billion.

The scam is said to have occured during the 2010/2011 and 2011/2012 financial years.

Nabakooba said they are going to publish photos of all those who are claimed to have received the pension money and therefore calls upon whoever will see their photo published to come and tell the police if they actually received the money. This is to further help the police with their investigations into the scam.

Late last year, officials from Cairo International Bank Uganda were arrested for allegedly facilitating this as they maintained accounts and used to transfer money to the same accounts without authenticating the identities of the account holders.

Police says more officials of the bank will arrested especially those charged with account opening duties.
