Uganda has in its history received the youngest member of parliament. After the death of her father who was at that time the area member of parliament, 19 year old
Proscovia Alengot Oromait did not know that she would write history as a replacement of her late father.
Hailing from Usuk county, Katakwi District, born in 1993, she is so far the youngest legislator in the country and in the whole of the East African region. She won a re-election to a post that fell vacant after the death of her father Michael Oromait. She was able to tussle it out with "Men" and overtook them with an overwhelming 54.2% win over all her rivals among whom was a former MP of the same area Charles Oleny who only got 26.1%.
She is looked at by many especially the NRM party members who do not doubt her ability, as a resource added, basing on her oratory skills. She was her school's debating club chairperson, worked at a radio station in Jinja, and also participated in the CHOGM debate in 2007 at Serena hotel in Kampala. Her public speaking skills cant therefore be doubted.
All the best Proscovia.
