Speaker Kadaga orders Police off Lukwago's home

Parliament Speaker Hon. Rebecca Kadaga
Speaker of the Parliament of Uganda Rt. Hon. Rebecca Kadaga has instructed that Police officers guarding Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) Lord Mayor's home be removed and the family be supplied with food and other necessities.

At a special plenary on Tuesday afternoon, Kadaga said she had received complaints from opposition MPs that Lukwago had been held hostage in his own house ever since he was cleared by court of an impeachment order signed by KCCA Councillors and the Minister for Kampala Hon. Frank Tumwebaze.

“Government should allow and send food to Lukwago and Besigye ‘s house holds immediately” Kadaga ordered.

Hon. Muwanga Kivumbi, the Member of Parliament for Butambala County said Lukwago's state at the moment is hard to explain.

“For the last week Lukwago has not accessed the bank, he asked for money from me but police refused me to give him money”, said Kivumbi.

Tear gas and bullets rocked Lukwago's home on Monday as as his supporters battled police in an unsuccessful attempt to ‘free him from preventive arrest’.
