Thousands Grace 2013 MTN Kampala Marathon

Close to 20,000 people took part in the 2013 and 10th edition of the annual MTN Kampala Marathon, organised by MTN Uganda, with an aim of positively impacting the lives of millions of Ugandans in dire need for social necessities.

The event organised under the theme "Run for Water" kicked off at 7am from the Kololo airstrip grounds with an overwhelming number of participants.

This year's event was organised to raise funds for safe and clean water for the people of Karamoja, who for a long time have been depending on unclean water. The money will be used to construct state of the art taps, bore halls and water tanks.

Contestants competed in 10km and 21km. 

The 10km race was won by Philip Kipyeko in first place, Stephen Mande in second place, Ben Simikwo in third place. 21km was won by Daniel Rotich, followed by Moses Kipet and Ezekiel Chepkoom in third place.

Inspector General of Police General Kale Kayihura was the chief runner. He led a police team of senior officers in the corporate challenge.

Roofings Limited and Serena hotel were voted Best Corporate Teams at the 2013 event.

The marathon was sponsored by  Huawei, New Vision, Stanbic Bank and Rwenzori Beverages, the makers of Rwenzori water.
