Embattled Kampala Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago has petitioned court to block the impending impeachment by the Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) Councillors saying their move is illegal and unconstitutional.
Lukwago said the Justice Bamugemereire report that found him guilty of incompetence, misconduct and abuse of office, was biased and only being pushed for by President Yoweri Museveni, who he says has always wanted him (Lukwago) out of office.
Lukwago and his lawyers say they are preparing the petition and want court to block the impeachment.
17 KCCA Councillors in May petitioned the Minister for the Presidency and Kampala Hon. Frank Tumwebaze and a tribunal to investigate the claims of the Councillors was instituted by Tumwebaze.
The tribunal, headed by High Court Judge Catherine Bamugemereire, found Lukwago guilty of all the claims as drawn by the Councillors.
Lukwago and other opposition politicians have been of recent been involved in running battles with police as they try to address the public, who they say have the powers to get him (Lukwago) out of office since they are the very people that voted him into office.
