The Electoral Commission has postponed nomination dates for Bukanga County by-election, which were scheduled for Tuesday and Wednesday.
The new dates have been set for November 11th and 12th.
According to the
Electoral Commission spokesperson, Mr Jotham Taremwa, the postponing of nomination dates is as a result of delay by the Ministry of Finance to release funds to the commission to facilitate the exercise.
“Funds to facilitate the by-election have been delayed. As we speak we have not yet received money for the exercise yet nominations were scheduled for today (November 5) and tomorrow. Funds will be ready by the end of this week. We have pushed the exercise ahead to get the money from the Ministry of Finance,” Mr Taremwa said.
The campaign period that had been scheduled to run between November 8 and November 24 will equally be effected. However voting will remain as scheduled on November 26.
The Bukanga county seat fell vacant after the death of MP Gregory Matovu in September. Gregory Matovu who was 58 at the time of his death succumbed to throat cancer.
