It is a rare event that happens not so often and not in every country. It is the Solar Eclipse that Uganda is eagerly waiting for, with the best view of the Eclipse set to be in Pakwach District, in the northern part of the Country.
Come November 3, an eclipse, that is expected to attract over 30,000 tourists to the country will be experienced.
It is expected to happen between noon and 2pm and will last for between seven to nine minutes.
Preparations are in high gear with many Hotels, Guest Houses and Motels in the Northern Districts of Gulu, Arua, Pakwach already fully booked.
According to the Association of Uganda Tour Operators (AUTO) chairperson, Boniface Byamukama, the number of expected tourists has overwhelmed what they had planned for.
"We were looking at 20,000 tourists given the resources we had to campaign, that is why hotels and companies have full bookings and why several stakeholders in the tourism industry have moved to take advantage of the surplus". said Byamukama.
Many players in the tourism sector are looking forward to reaping big from this eclipse event. Some hotels in the areas that will offer the best view of the eclipse have been expanded to accommodate more visitors, and those that were still under construction have been completed earlier than scheduled.
Government has invested over shs.500 million in the preparatory events for the eclipse view. The road network has been improved. Security has been heightened across the country, to avert the continued threats of possible terror attacks by Somalia based Al-Qaeda group, the Al-shabaab.
Other areas of the Country will also have a view of the Eclipse though not as good as Pakwach District.
A solar eclipse, as seen from the earth, occurs when the Moon passes between the Sun and Earth, and the Moon fully or partially blocks the Sun.
Health Warning.
Health experts have passed a warning on to the Public to desist from viewing the eclipse with naked eyes. They advise people to use at least dark shades, unused photo negatives, black polythene bags.
They say the rays from the view can harm the eyes and lead to eye defects that can cost some one a fortune.
