Buhweju District will tomorrow go to polls to elect the District Woman Member of Parliament, to replace the late Joy Karisa Arinaitwe who passed away on September 4 at Nakasero Hospital.
In the run for the job are National Resistance Movement (NRM)'s Olive Katwesigye Kwokyenga and Forum for Democratic Change (FDC)'s Jane Frida Bwiruka. The third candidate, an independent, Alison Byamukama withdrew from the race, rising chances for the success of NRM's candidate.
According to the Electoral Commission Chairperson Eng Badru Kiggundu, a total of 44,118 registered voters are expected to cast their ballots from 120 poling stations across the district.
He said the voting exercise will begin at 7 am and is expected to close at 5 pm from where counting and tallying of the votes will begin. Results of the vote are expected on the same day.
Kiggundu has warned the candidates and their agents to desist from causing havoc at poling stations during and after the voting exercise.
He said the commission had already dispatched items for the polls.
