NRM Day Celebration 2013 Highlights.

The ruling National Resistance Movement/ Army (NRM/A) party celebrated her 27th liberation day anniversary on January 30 after it was postponed from its calendar date of Jan 26. The celebrations were at Nyakasanga play grounds,
Kasese District.

Presided over by Uganda's President Yoweri Museveni, it was review the achievements of the ruling party for the past 27 years and draw strategies for economic transformation in the next years to come.

The president said that Uganda and other African countries have lagged behind the west because there are no industrial developments. 
“What Uganda and the rest of Africa lacks most are the factories. We were colonized because we lacked factories but not because of clans. Therefore if the lack of factories is solved all other issues will be easy to address”.

He said that problem of lack of proper actors in the industrialization of Uganda has also affected the process of finding capable investors to take on Kilembe Mines for the revamping of copper mining. Museveni blamed the delay of the revamping Kilembe mines to delayed an unnecessary procurement processes that have led to loss of suitable investors.

“There is a group of investors that has been coming here but they are being tossed around like house boys. Rich people are not supposed to be tossed here and there by some people in swinging chairs. Such people have delayed the process of Kilembe Mines”.

Museveni also pleged to fight on with the war against corruption and rid all public offices of what he called "thieves". The president said the fight against corruption is being affected by the Judiciary that grants bail to even the most wanted corruption core criminals.

“ I do not know why the judiciary is giving bail to every suspect. There is bail to everybody including the core criminals. We shall do legislation as politicians about this law to determine the categories of suspects supposed to be granted bails".Museveni warned.

Museveni warned the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) rebels that are planning to regroup and invade Uganda to drop their plans because they "will be dealt with and crashed". He asked the people in the Rwenzori sub-region to forget about the ADF threat but rather concentrate on the cultivation of coffee and apples to enhance their household incomes and kick poverty once and for all.

At the celebrations, several people received medals as an appreciation for their contribution to the NRA/M struggles. The country's Former presidents were also recognised with the 50th National Independence Golden Jubilee medal.

Others awarded medals were Rwenzururu Kingdom King Mumbere Charles Wesley Ex-Kampala Mayor Christopher Iga, departed Industrialist James Mulwana Uganda Netball team that contested at the 1979 World Cup in Trinidad & Tobago, 1990 Commonwealth Gold Medalist and current Kampala Central Mayor, Godfrey Nyakana, the 1978 Uganda Cranes team, Olympic Men’s Marathon Gold Medalist Stephen Kiprotich and Renowned playwright Alex Mukulu.

The function was attended by religious, political and cultural leaders from across the country and dignitaries from Mozambique, Egypt and the Democratic Republic of Congo among others.
