Somali President survives Assassination.

The newly elected president of Somalia Hassan Sheikh Mohamud was the target of an assassination attempt that the Al-shabab have claimed responsibility of, when they attacked a hotel where he was residing and holding a number of conferences after being sworn in as the new president at the same hotel.

It was carried out by suicide bombers who entered the hotel and immediately started detonating the bombs. This attack left a UN envoy dead. The Al-shabab claim the new leader was voted to power by people they consider their ‘enemies’ and therefore it was like bringing new wine in an old bottle.

They vowed to continue such attacks until they take over control of Somalia. The AU forces have however warned the Al-shabab against any more attacks of that kind and vowed to crush the Al-shabab as well.
